Catamaran for Rafting the Ili River

The Russian-made Kulik catamaran is designed for rafting on mountain rivers of up to category 6 difficulty. It has double-layer pontoons: the outer layer is sewn from high-strength material that protects against cuts from rocks and branches. Each pontoon has two independent air chambers to ensure buoyancy in case of damage. An aluminum frame provides a reliable connection between the two pontoons.

For multi-day rafting trips, the catamaran is used as the base for a decked vessel. In this configuration there are two decks, which are very convenient for fishing, sunbathing, diving into the water, or transporting gear. The paddlers’ seats are located on the pontoons under the canopy, and between the pontoons in the middle are compartments for three large boxes intended for equipment and food supplies. The deck configuration is used for long rafting trips on the Ili River, whose slow current makes a long journey most comfortable.

For one-day rafting trips, the basic catamaran configuration without canopy or deck is used.

The comfortable capacity of the catamaran in its basic configuration is 4 people, while the maximum capacity is 6 people. In the deck configuration, the maximum capacity is 4 people.
